Web3 Gaming Adoption Accelerates Through Platforms Like Telegram
A recent research report highlights the pivotal role of platforms such as Telegram in propelling the adoption of Web3 gaming. Conducted with feedback from nearly 1,000 gamers worldwide, the report illustrates how the integration of blockchain technology and the emergence of "compete-to-earn" games are reshaping the gaming landscape.
The survey revealed that Telegram is becoming a favored platform for mobile gaming, with 53.56% of respondents selecting it as their preferred choice. This statistic underscores Telegram’s expanding influence and its capability to engage a substantial player community.
A remarkable 78.77% of participants reported playing games daily, while 15.19% indicated they game several times a week. The report emphasized the increasing importance of competitive gaming, particularly through blockchain games that leverage community-driven initiatives.
“Our findings indicate that as social platforms like Telegram enter the Web3 arena, alongside the growth of competitive skill-based games, we are witnessing the beginnings of mass adoption among players globally. Gamers are motivated by competition, and we aim to develop games that fulfill this desire,” said Tom Kopera, COO of Elympics.
Historically, gaming has been a centralized affair, with companies controlling game development and regulations. In contrast, blockchain games empower players with greater control, allowing them to own in-game assets that are resistant to manipulation.
The report also highlights that blockchain gaming is on the cusp of widespread adoption, driven by growing interest from gamers eager to engage in these new formats. Michał Dąbrowski, CEO of Elympics, remarked on this trend, noting an increasing enthusiasm for participation.
However, challenges remain. The initial iterations of blockchain games suffered from design flaws and unstable in-game economies, which led to skepticism among potential players. The survey indicated that the primary barrier to entry for many, with 32.11% of respondents expressing uncertainty about how to begin, is a lack of understanding of the blockchain gaming ecosystem.
The industry has learned from past missteps, with developers now focused on creating engaging games supported by robust economic models that promote fair play and genuine ownership of digital assets. Elympics believes that by introducing real-world stakes into gaming, Web3 could herald a transformative shift in the industry.
